Label: Burning World Records
Availability: Pre-order (click=shop). Ships out 1st week of April 2017.

“In the beginning, there was nothing but the energy of chaos. Absu and Tiamat slept, and dreamed their darkest dreams. And all was good until their dark dreams began to spawn the cosmic gods. Tiamat and Absu were disgusted by these abominations. Their wailing disturbed Tiamat’s and Absu’s sleep. Absu and Tiamat agreed that these worthless abominations must be destroyed…”

With such a premise – a cosmic war between monstrous deities from an ancient, mythological past – it doesn’t come as a surprise that CELESTIAL BODIES’ debut, “Spit Forth From Chaos”, is one of the most intense, hallucinating and mind-shattering sonic experiences ever put on record. A duo based in The Netherlands and comprised of members from Nihill and Dead Neanderthals, CELESTIAL BODIES are exactly the fruit of their unholy union. From Nihill they inherited the pitch-black and noise-drenched sound, as well as a conceptual approach with deep roots in gnosticism and occultism, while from Dead Neanderthals they borrowed the avant-garde sensibility and the free-jazz nature built on improvisation.

BURNING WORLD to release CELESTIAL BODIES Spit Forth From Chaos on vinyl

Invisible Oranges did a write up about the Celestial Bodies album Spit Forth From Chaos that will be out on CD in March on  I, Voidhanger Records, with LP release to come end of spring/early summer from Burning World Records.

Chaos embodied in metal is a result of faulty poetics. The chaos worshipped by black metal and grindcore bands is demonstrated with lovely rhetoric and unbridled spirit, but chaos cannot be contained within song structure and melody. Not to disregard black metal, but chaos, in its own right, cannot be caged. As we have all learned, chaos is erratic, irregular, violent but never directional. Rhetoric is an integral part of music, especially in black metal’s multidisciplinary approach, but newcomers Celestial Bodies‘s ceremonious shedding of metal’s limitations, like Abruptum before them, transforms words on paper into action.

Nihill is one of the scariest bands I’ve encountered, and their fourth album Verderf is the Dutch outfit’s more abrasive and disturbing effort yet. While the well-connected trio (who share members with Dodecahedron and TeRzij de Horde) ostensibly play black metal, their vision of what that means is an apocalyptic aggregate of drone, industrial, dark ambient, and pure, painful noise layered beneath the ravening tremolo, ungodly roars, and brittle blasts. It even verges on industrialized doom on songs like “Spirituum”, riding a decayed tempo straight to hell. In short, it’s nasty stuff made by unhinged people, who may be perfectly lovely in the flesh but lose all sense of mercy or melody when the spirit of Nihill comes knocking.

NIHILL to release new album Verderf on Burning World, artwork revealed

Burning World is proud to present a new addition to our roster in the form of Verderf by our fellow Dutch country men Nihill. It’s a renewed bond, already forced by the release in 2013 of the casette As: Undead At Roadburn 2013.

Nihill VerderfNihill makes a perfect fit with Burning World for 2 reasons:

  • In the past Burning World  already released records by modern day black metal luminairies as Wolves In The Throne Room, Altar Of Plagues, Winterfylleth and Vattnet Viskar. We consider Nihill as one of the modern day orginal black metal bands that try to push the genre further into ice cold territory. Think Deathspell Omega, Teitanblood, Blut Aus Nord.
  • Nihill is a Dutch band and in the last year we released records by Monomyth, Atlantis and Seirom (just out!). We think these are 3 of the best Dutch albums released in the last 12 months and we are sure Verderf will make that number 4!

Verderf will be released on double vinyl, cd, cassette and digital later this summer.

More info on Nihill:

“Holland’s Nihill are one of the few bands in current circulation to which some of black metal’s most common musical descriptors actually apply. Theirs is music of a truly relentless, cold and unforgiving nature, one which offers little or nothing in the way of relief or comforting melody. Though their albums are often punctuated by stretches of near silence or hushed ambience set between walls of frenzied blast and pummeling churn, these lulls serve to bolster the threatening whole in their absence of recognizable musical footholds. The winding paths laid by their music may be lightless, but the journey down them is one well worth taking.”

NIHILL As. Undead at Roadburn 2013 tape up for pre-order

Roadburn-2013-Afterburner-NihillThe first recordings from Roadburn Festival 2013 to see the light of day is the blistering and blackened Sunday live performance of Tilburg’s own Nihill. As. Nihill Undead At Roadburn 2013 will be released on tape – which is a Roadburn Records first! 100 copies. No digital. Just analog. Get yours here. Tapes will be sent out 1st  or 2nd week of june 2013.

Some gracious quotes about the performance:

‘Nihill then show up out of the darkness of the Green Room to ruin everyone’s relaxed party-end atmosphere. On their very first live show, the subtle genius of their three records engulfed in a whirlwind of black/doom malice and then spat out again in disgust, in a stage performance much more focused on unhinged violence than their recordings. Such is the beating we take from them that everything seems less great after Nihill.’  Terrorizer

‘Nightmarish black metal from Roadburn’s own backyard, featuring Michiel Eikenaar from Dodecahedron on brutishly snarled vocals; they laid down the kind of performance that bands with decades more experience would slit their own wattled throats for.’ Grim Kim for Metalsucks.
