ULVER Live At Roadburn 2LP (+ shirt!) and CD now available for pre-sale

Posted in 2013, Burning World Records, mailorder on March 18th, 2013 by Jurgen Burning World

ULVER_cd-roadburndigipakEarly pioneers of Norwegian black metal Ulver have continually evolved over the years to become living legends of the dark music genre. By blending rock, electronic, industrial and symphonic traditions along with ambient soundscapes and experimental sounds, the band has created truly groundbreaking material.

Ulver returned with Childhood’s End, a collection of classic psychedelic tracks recorded by the band during various sessions starting in late 2008 and ending in late 2011. “This is the stuff that we sit at home and get stoked about,” Kristoffer Rygg explained in an interview. “I grew up with parents who were still listening to music from the time, so it informed my childhood, but it has became an ever increasing geeky sort of fetish since then.”

This passion for Sixties garage rock and psychedelia and the countless underground gems that remain unknown to many inspired the band to record their own interpretations of some of their favorite songs from the era. “My feeling is that most people’s knowledge sort of limits itself to The Doors,” said Rygg, “The Doors were cool, but there was so much else going on in the underground, records that got lost and didn’t get as much recognition as they deserved in my opinion.”

Ulver performed the tracks from Childhood’s End for the first and only time live at Roadburn 2012. Their “1967” performance, mixed by Kristoffer Rygg and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano, will be released on 2LP and CD through Burning World Records and available at this year’s Roadburn Festival.

That album is now available for pre-order on vinyl and cd and will be sent out the 2nd week of April 2013 or can be picked up at the Roadburn Festival 2013.

The vinyl is available in 3 colors:

  • Gold (100 copies, only available at Burning World Records),
  • White (300 copies, only available at Burning World Record and the USA)
  • Black (600 copies, available at Burning World Records and all good shops near you!)

There is also an option to buy all 3 colors at a special price and the gold version is also available in a package with a shirt (round sleeve design, gold on black). Get it here.

Burning World to release BLACK MAGICIAN full length cd in September

Posted in 2012, Burning World Records on July 12th, 2012 by gira1971

Burning World Records is proud to present the latest addition to our roster: Black Magician. The band will release their debut cd Nature Is The Devil’s Church with us in September 2012. Vinyl duties will be handled by the label behind The Sleeping Shaman, Shaman recordings. Find below a quote from a The Sleeping Shaman live review, we could not have put it better ourselves and that’s not just because we are not native speakers! More info on the release when we have it.

Driven by swirling organ and monumental carved-from-granite guitar, with able rhythmic support and throaty vocals, this is pure doom metal with nary a trace of the stoner rock or hardcore sludge that can be found in the sound of so many of their contemporaries and may be best summed up by my friend and living legend Doomlord as ‘like Atomic Rooster playing early Cathedral’. If that doesn’t make you all a-slaver with anticipation for their album or a live date in your town then there is just no pleasing you.

While Black Magician confess to being just as influenced by the late 60s British folk scene as by the old guard of Heavy Metal and Doom, there’s no hippy-drippy philosophising here. Black Magician’s ideology is firmly rooted in the sinister. The brooding landscape of Arthur Machen, the haunted countryside of M.R. James is where they reside most contentedly.

Black Magician distance themselves from the current trend for pseudo-occult rehashed doom posturing and clichéd horror film imagery. What you can expect is something much more sincere, a genuine fascination with the darker side of British history.

Monolithic cosmic-nod-inducing riffs, swirling Hammond organ and dark acoustic passages are the ingredients in this alchemical brew, the resulting concoction a grim incantation, an ode to anti-urbanism, a very English darkness.

Black Magician Are
Liam Yates – Vocals
Kyle Roy Nesbitt – Guitar, Piano
Jay Plested – Drums
Matt Ford – Organ
John McNulty – Bass Guitar

CONAN: Artwork For Monnos’ Revealed + CD Pre Sales Now Available

Posted in 2012, Burning World Records, mailorder on March 1st, 2012 by gira1971

Many thanks to our Friends at The Sleeping Shaman for posting the following item on the fantastic new artwork by Tony Roberts (click left on image = bigger):

“The eagerly anticipated 2nd Full Length Album from UK’s Caveman Battle Doomer’s CONAN entitled ‘Monnos’ will be released on 2nd April 2012 via Burning World Records, initially on CD, pre-sales for which are now available HERE (3 versions: with shirt and with the Conan/Slomatics cd included) with the vinyl being released to coincide with the bands appearance at this year’s Roadburn Festival on 13th April 2012 at the O13 in Tilburg.

And today, we can unveil the amazing artwork which was expertly carved out by Tony Roberts, who has now collaborated with CONAN on all of their releases so far and you can check it out below.

Guitarist and Vocalist Jon commented on the new album, their Roadburn appearance and how they once again got Tony Roberts involved to design the sleeve…

“We’re looking forward to getting Monnos out there. We feel the songs are as heavy, if not heavier, than those on Horseback and the split, and still retain the clarity of the tracks on the split. We are always very careful, when writing new stuff, to try and improve upon or vary slightly from what we have written before. We don’t want people to think we are content to just write the same old shit. We’re currently in the very early stages of writing new material and hopefully we can start working towards the follow up to Monnos in the not too distant future but we won’t take anything to the studio until we think it’s worth putting out. Right now we want to enjoy the release of the album, see what people think and play some more shows. When we got the invite for Roadburn 2012 we shifted a couple of dates around to make our appearance on the Friday possible because, and let’s face it, you don’t turn down the chance to appear at Roadburn unless you have a VERY good reason.”

Burning World Records to release Conan/Slomatics split in cd in September

Posted in 2011, Burning World Records on August 17th, 2011 by gira1971

conan-slomatics-cover2Recently, Liverpudlian heavyweights Conan announced that they had signed to Burning World/Roadburn Records (that’s us!) for the release of their soon to be recorded 2012 album. Following on from that, they are delighted to be able to announce that their recent split album with Northern Irish riff lords Slomatics will also be getting a release via Burning World Records (us again!).

Originally only available on a limited edition vinyl via Head of Crom (now all but sold out, but we still have some on blue vinyl in our store. Same goes for Conan’s debut Horseback Battle Hammer onn white vinyl), the crushing might of this doom tag team will soon be available on compact disc from our friends in Holland.

The split, which was mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Pelican, Earth) has already received rave reviews in its wax format. “People should be aware that the CD release was mixed with a lot more bottom end than the vinyl release – it’s ridiculously heavy.” comments Conan’s riff-mastermind, Jon Davis. The incredible artwork by Tony Roberts (Electric Wizard, Cathedral) can be seen on the left.

Pre-order will be up in about two weeks.

Bong Live at Roadburn rave review at Aquarius Records

Posted in 2011, Roadburn Records on April 23rd, 2011 by gira1971

Bong-Live-At-Roadburn-2010Our good friends at Aquarius Records in San Franciso are one of the few shops around who review each and every one of the records that come in. These guys really care about their shop, the goods they sell and their customers. That’s why we are really thrilled to read the rave review of our Bong – Live at Roadburn CD. If you haven’t got it yet please pick it up in our Discogs store.

‘At times, “Onwards…” drifts back down into lulling stretches of spacey warbling electronic FX, and hippy-kraut hand drumming, coming across like a sinister Siloah or doomy Amon Duul. Or imagine the Master Musicians Of Bukkake making an ambient album for Miasmah, maybe. The equally epic second track, “Wizards Of Krull” previously recorded for the first side of their self-titled lp debut in 2009, continues in this vein, with more powerful percussion, though. It’s 24 minutes of ritualistically pounding drums and crashing cymbals, low drone from bass and voice both, gobs of distortion and spooky psychedelic effects, those Shahi Baaja note clusters chiming in with regularity. “Wizards…” gets slowly more and more intense as it goes, really ramping up towards the end with rhythmic urgency. Damn this is good! Bong bring it, all right, quite recommended, definitely for fans of Om, SUNNO, Grails, Sylvester Anfang… and of course Bong. And bongs! Most if not all Bong releases thus far have been live, and this one is much less of a lo-fi recording than some of those, making for an essential document of Bong’s unique trance-inducing potency.’
