DEAD TO A DYING WORLD Roadburn 2016 vinyl pre-order started

The day has finally come! The plant informed us that the records will be in in a few weeks so we can start the pre-order of the Dead To A Dying World Live At Roadburn 2016 LP+CD on Roadburn Records/Lay Bare Recordings. We have two versions: 100 copies on gold vinyl and 200 copies on black vinyl. Both are available on the links below, both in Europe as in the US/CA. Copies will be sent out in 3 or 4 weeks from now. Get in on the action now as gone = gone.

The Texas band Dead to a Dying World’s live album is a hybrid of doom, black metal, and crust punk, buttressed by baroque classical flourishes and focused on the state of the world and its rather grim prospects. Its six extended pieces commingle melodrama and momentum, horror and hope, pulling the listener along like a tight-wire suspense flick.

(PS we also started the pre-sale of the repress of the Elder Live At Roadburn LP+CD if you want to pick them up together).

UZALA Live at Roadburn 2015 LP now available for pre-order

uzala live at roadburn 2015 artworkUzala – Live At Roadburn 2015 LP is now available for pre-order. The album has been pressed on 3 colors; black, brown and white. All are the same price and will be shipped out in 2 weeks. Get your copy on the link below.

This is what JJ over at The Obelisk had to say about the gig and the recordings. “I’ll make no claim toward objectivity when it comes to listening to Uzala’s Live at Roadburn MMXV, but whether it’s as a complement to Tales of Blood and Fire or a precursor to their yet-unannounced next release with the new songs, their Roadburn set is a beast to behold, and if having been there affords me any authority at all on the subject, let it be to say that the live album accurately reflects how it went down on stage. They actually were this crisp and this on-point throughout their time in the Green Room, and at a fest where the impulse to be pulled in (at least) five directions at once, it was the kind of thing you couldn’t help but stand and watch front to back. I’m glad I did, and I’m glad I have Uzala‘s Live at Roadburn MMXV to remember it by.”

  • Get your copy in the Burning World Store.
  • Listen to the whole set on our Bandcamp-page (where more Roadburn-sets are to be found on “Pay what you want-basis”)
  • For the USA/Canada we’d recommend waiting a few weeks when the shipment to Outer Battery has arrived.

UZALA Live at Roadburn 2015 now available as free download

uzala-2-Photo-by-JJ-KoczanUzala live at Roadburn 2015 is now available on ‘Pay what you want’-basis on Bandcamp. For now only digital is available. The order for vinyl has been put in at the plant but we expect a release date not earlier then February 2016. We’ll keep you posted on that.

We could try to describe how the gig was but JJ over at The Obelisk does that better than we ever could:

“I had planned on catching a bit of Uzala in the Green Room and movesing on to the next set, but once they went on, the Boise, Idaho, three-piece held me in place. I didn’t know it at the time, but they were just what I was looking for. Guitarist Chad Remains, guitarist Darcy Nutt (also running her guitar through a bass rig, for extra low-end) and drummer Chuck Watkins had a new song in tow called “The Gallows,” and that moved a little faster than some of their more plodding material from 2014’s righteous Tales of Blood and Fire, songs like “Dark Days” and “Seven Veils,” but wherever they headed, they were just the right blend of beat-you-over-the-head heaviness in Remains and Nutt‘s tones, melody and lurching groove that I couldn’t have left even if I’d wanted to. They were not to be missed, in other words. Vocals were a little low, at least up front where I was standing, but Nutt has a powerful voice and as dense as those tones got — seriously, there were parts where they sounded like a machine grinding to a halt; I wondered how they’d restart it for the next measure — she cut through with little trouble and palpable soul.

Their set was a highlight of the day for me, all the more because I’d seen them before, knew what I Uzala was getting into and they still managed to surprise with how switched on they were. Remains shredded his solos in top form and had some technical trouble along the way that was fixed so promptly by the Green Room crew that I’m not even sure he noticed. Only complaint? No “Tenement of the Lost.” The closer from Tales of Blood and Fire that begins with a wash of feedback and culminates in one of the sweetest minimalist doom ballads my ears have heard in the last five years — it’s my go-to sad song — would’ve certainly been welcome, but honestly, I think the maximum-volume approach they took was probably a more practical call given the room. I could’ve gone to see Russian Circles on the Main Stage, or Thou at Het Patronaat, or Moaning Cities, in Stage01, but Uzala kept me where I was. They were a thrill to watch.”

WOLF BLOOD S/T out now, whole album streaming on Bandcamp

Wolf Blood ArtWolf Blood S/T is out now and can be listened to on Bandcamp. The vinyl version will come in later this week and will be shipped to all who have pre-ordered. Pre-orders can still be placed in our online store (for Europe) or in the Outer Battery store (for US/Canada).

If you don’t know Wolf Blood read the quote below from JJ over at The Obelisk:

“Grooves and big riffs abound, but that’s nothing new to the converted, and where Wolf Blood really distinguish themselves is in the oddity of their aggression. Blending clean vocals, spoken parts and screams, they play off both metallic and heavy rock styles and craft something fluid and malevolent from them. There’s a sense of theatricality in side A finale “Dancing on Your Grave,” where much of the album’s second half seems to be more about pummel, but there’s an emerging personality at work across the board, and Wolf Blood emerge after “Procession of the Witch” unscathed by their own strangeness, having tread hard on a couple fine lines between subgenres. Ultimately, Wolf Blood is as satisfying for its brashness as it is for its density of groove.”

Julian Cope gives HAIKAI NO KU vinyl debut double thumbs up!

Haikai noJulian Cope, Archdude of Essex, connaiseur of all things psychedelic and underground, over at Head Heritage expresses his sincere love for Sick on My Journey, the debut album of the trio Haikai No Ku.

Next up, take a listen to the sonic devastation of SICK ON MY JOURNEY by power trio Haikai no Ku, whose wall-of-noise and Titanic celebrations of Midrange are a joy to behold. Despite their fake Japanese name and scrupulous attention to overdubbing, this bunch is entirely itself, bearing all the Matamps-Thrown-Down-Elevator-Liftshafts sonic attack of Les Rallizes Dénudés, but without the supremely IQ-lessness of Mizutani’s cohorts – truly the Billy Talbots of the Underground. Indeed, although the Dutch record company Burning World claim that this band plays ‘Death Toll Blues’ in the vein of Mizutani’s finest and Kawabata’s Mainliner, please be aware that this is something of a red herring. For musically at least Haikai no Ku exhibit none of the pre-teen pedestrian Lümpenhippy Velvetsisms that Mizutani requires in order to clear his psychic custard (hell, this drummer sounds like he’s got a whole kit!), nor even any of the post-Blue Cheer, sub-High Rise wipe-outs of Kawabata Makoto’s transcendental Mainliner. But fear not, my kiddies, for instead, Haikai no Ku present us with their very own brand new trip AND it’s just as stupid and petulantly ramalaming as any of the aforemenched. So grab this slice of brown vinyl with its free CD and dig dig dig it! Stuperb debut LP, gentlemen!

The album is still available here. Or listen to the album on Bandcamp below.

ELDER to release Live At Roadburn 2013, download now on Bandcamp

elder roadburn CDpsdRoadburn Records is proud to present: Elder Live At Roadburn 2013 on both vinyl, cd and digital. For those we weren’t there check what JJ Koczan, connaisseur of all things rock and psychedelic, over at The Obelisk had to say about the experience of catching Elder live:

‘What a fucking blast. Seriously. That’s what it says in my notes: “What a fucking blast.” It’s a direct quote. Probably the best thing I can compare it to is when Black Pyramid played the Afterburner in 2011 and were given such a warm reception, but this was bigger, both in room size and in that reception itself. People were lined up out the door and down the alley to see Elder‘s Roadburn debut, and the crowd was cheering before they even started the first song. They waved and people cheered. It was a lot of fun to see, and as it was the 10th show on their 15-date European run with Pet the Preacher, they also handed the place its collective ass. Both cuts from the Spires Burn/Release EP were included, as well as “Dead Roots Stirring” and a host of others, and for the umpteenth time in the last couple days, I felt lucky to be there. I know for a lot of people, this was the first time they’re getting to see them live, but even for the several times I have, this one was something special.’

  • Live At Roadburn 2013 captures the set in all it’s glory. Listen to it on below on Bandcamp and if you like download it, it’s “Pay what you want” so even free!
  • If you need the set on cd or vinyl please go here but beware we will not be able to send out the vinyl or cd before Feb. 1st 2014.

ATLANTIS Omens now available to stream or download at Bandcamp

Atlantic Omens SleeveOur friend JJ. Koczan over at The Obelisk was one of the first to get the new Atlantis record Omens, that is released on LP+CD and CD next week. This is what he had to say about the album:

“Omens, their third mostly-instrumental full-length — there are also two EPs, most recently 2012′s La Petite Mort — on Oct. 14 through Burning World Records, crafting a sonic blend of post-metal, progressive electronica and a sense of tonal weight, resulting in six varied and textured tracks that truly seem to be the output of a clear vision for what the sound should be. Whether it’s the initial ambience of “Rapture” or the patient building of tension that leads to the slow-paced crush of “Widowmaker,” both of Omens‘ vinyl sides produce a rich, immersive feel that’s easy to get lost within.

There are stretches that come across as comparatively minimal, but Omens is never really still, and whether it’s a swirl of synth on backing the emergent shouts on “And She Drops the 7th Veil” or the noisy, chaotic patterning of the side B intro “The Path Into” — that path, incidentally, goes into “Widowmaker” — Atlantis always keep a sense of forward motion despite the changing sphere of each given track and the mood that each piece of the 50-minute offering makes so malleable throughout. As both the first instance of the weighted riffing that comes to the fore periodically and the album’s initial thrust,”Raptor” does a significant amount of work in establishing the atmospheric basis from which the rest of the songs work. It has both parcel fluctuations and an overarching linear build, and pays off in grand style only made more affecting by the drawn out keyboard melodies that top.”

More information on Atlantis:

Atlantis was started in 2006 as a solo  project by Gilson Heitinga taking influences  from film scores, noise, doom, 70‘s  psychedelia, ambient & electronica as well  as Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails,  Neurosis, Portishead, SWANS, Clint  Mansell.

After hearing a number of demos Atlantis was signed to Field Records to release debut album Carpe Omnium in 2007  receiving great reviews. To support this release a live band was formed and their first  show was at the Dutch Incubate Festival. Atlantis toured the first half of 2012 in  support of the La Petite Mort EP including playing the infamous Roadburn Festival,  and Belgians Dunk!Festival.

After the 4 previous releases and tours all over Europe, it was time to do things a bit  different. Gilson started writing and recording the new  full-length between August 2012 until December 2012. Being inspired by the overwhelming sound of  the live band, it was decided to record live  drums (instead of programming them), more guitars, more analog synths AND more vocals to create a spectrum of sound and noise that would smash into a living room as well as a live environment.

Having collaborated on Mistress Of Ghosts with the singer Big from Germany and on the La Petite Mort EP with Swedens Johannes Persson (from Cult Of Luna), this time Sanne Mus (a professionally trained classical vocalist) brought her voice and skills to the table on the songs “And She  Drops The 7th Veil” and “Omen”.

So here it is, the new Atlantis album :  OMENS sonically inspired by the Atlantis live band and the emotions that come to play as things change and you can sense there are events going to happen, positive as  negative. Atlantis is now ready to tour relentlessly in support of OMENS!

12 Oct. Winston Amsterdam with Bossk
