Stone Axe II vinyl out now! Pics available

Posted in 2010, Artist, News on August 6th, 2010 by Gira1971

Stone Axe IIThe European version of Stone Axe – II is now available on Alone Records/Burning World Records! It’s alimited edition of 300 with 100 on gold vinyl, 200 on black. So get them while you can. Read an excerpt of the review Woody did for The Ripple Effect. See the pics and tracklist (different than on cd) after the break (click on pictues for bigger versions).

When it comes to mid-tempo heavy rock, Stone Axe are the most dedicated muthas on the planet right now. Too old and unfashionable to be considered “retro,” Stone Axe eat, shit and breathe the full gamut of classic rock from the late 1960’s through the early 1970’s.  Stone Axe II picks up where 2009’s full length debut left off but also offers quite a few surprises. The first album was heavy on British style blues rock of bands like Free, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era, only), etc. This new one touches on just about every style of classic rock. Listening to Stone Axe II from start to finish is like listening to a good rock radio station with a good DJ and no format restrictions.

Wino Live at Roadburn CDOn the back of his set with Saint Vitus on friday Wino played a mix of material from the just released Wino album Puntuated Equilibibrium, The Obsessed-material and more.

The set was recorded in multi track and mixed and mastered specially for this release by Mell Dettmer (Sunn o))), Earth, Burning Witch & more). Brooklyn Vegan: an interview w/ Altar of Plagues + mp3

Posted in 2010, Artist, News on July 14th, 2010 by Gira1971

Altar of PlaguesTides was written and recorded during an extremely intense winter here in Ireland. It is the first time we have ever worked on material in the winter and I think that had an influence, even if I did not realize it at the time. During the writing I was also spending a great deal of time at a house on the coast, with the Atlantic Ocean just a stone’s throw away. I could not help but become captivated by its energy. While at this place, I learned stories of the hardships endured by people living on small Islands off this coast before the modern world existed. These people were entirely at the mercy of the Atlantic Ocean and as such were very much in tune with its movements and rhythm.

With Tides we also chose to go for a less studio-esq experience and record in a more raw way. The recording of White Tomb was very much a studio experience whereas Tides was more impulsive, we did not spend any time fretting over perfect takes or sounds. I think that is why the end product is less polished and more emotionally driven. That is an approach I would like to take in the future, especially with vocals. A metal ‘shriek’ is a painful, honest expression – but how can it be honest if it is recorded over and over until it sounds correct? (Of course the same approach might not apply to melodic singing, which has a ‘right’ sound.). With the second album I would like to find a balance between having an honest and real (not hundreds of takes) recording that adheres to what we would consider to be album standards.

Steve von Till (Neurosis) project gets vinyl treatment + Harvestman Tour

Posted in 2010, Artist, Label, News on June 10th, 2010 by Gira1971

Harvestman - In a Dark TongueBurning World Records is extremely proud to present that we are giving Harvestman – In a Dark Tongue the vinyl treatment. July 15th 2010 we will release this 2LP but copies will be available on the European Steve von Till/Harvestman tour of which you’ll find the dates below. Artwork was in the hands of Josh Graham (Neurosis/ A Storm of Light)

The first Harvestman record, A Grave Is A Grim Horse, was a dizzying confluence of delicate seventies British style folk, shimmery spaced out drift, and glacial doomdrone sprawl, a constantly evolving, organic song suite that seemed to exist in some glorious blissed out druggy spacefolk otherworld. On In A Dark Tongue, the glimmering strands of traditional folk music that had tethered the first record become even more tenuous.

The possibility to pre-order (together with the pre-orders for Neurosis – Live at Roadburn 2007 2LP) will be up later this week. As usual we offer a limited gold vinyl version and a high quality black vinyl version. See Steve von Till/Harvestman this summer on his European tour:
