DEAD NEANDERTHALS to release Live At Roadburn 2016 on CS and digital. Artwork reveiled!

Dead Neanderthals FRONT DEF-01Dutch duo Dead Neaderthals are set to release their 2016 performance on Roadburn Festival on limited edition cassette (100) and digital. The cassette is housed in a stunning 3-panel sleeve designed by Loulou &  Tummie.

The digital version will go on sale next week, the cassette will be available in the first week of October. Watch this space for when pre-orders for the tape go live. Digital will be available next week.

The artwork is now available to check out in (click =large).

An impression of the set can be found at Ponto-Alternativo.

“Nijmegen duo Dead Neanderthals levelled the audience in a way harsher than most “extreme” metal bands would be able to do. Imagine a rather noisy free jazz sax solo with a drummer playing an excruciatingly relentless fill behind it. Now stretch it for about forty-five minutes of non-stop head pounding and along which you start to recognize how well kept the whole pace is.”

UZALA Live at Roadburn 2015 now available as free download

uzala-2-Photo-by-JJ-KoczanUzala live at Roadburn 2015 is now available on ‘Pay what you want’-basis on Bandcamp. For now only digital is available. The order for vinyl has been put in at the plant but we expect a release date not earlier then February 2016. We’ll keep you posted on that.

We could try to describe how the gig was but JJ over at The Obelisk does that better than we ever could:

“I had planned on catching a bit of Uzala in the Green Room and movesing on to the next set, but once they went on, the Boise, Idaho, three-piece held me in place. I didn’t know it at the time, but they were just what I was looking for. Guitarist Chad Remains, guitarist Darcy Nutt (also running her guitar through a bass rig, for extra low-end) and drummer Chuck Watkins had a new song in tow called “The Gallows,” and that moved a little faster than some of their more plodding material from 2014’s righteous Tales of Blood and Fire, songs like “Dark Days” and “Seven Veils,” but wherever they headed, they were just the right blend of beat-you-over-the-head heaviness in Remains and Nutt‘s tones, melody and lurching groove that I couldn’t have left even if I’d wanted to. They were not to be missed, in other words. Vocals were a little low, at least up front where I was standing, but Nutt has a powerful voice and as dense as those tones got — seriously, there were parts where they sounded like a machine grinding to a halt; I wondered how they’d restart it for the next measure — she cut through with little trouble and palpable soul.

Their set was a highlight of the day for me, all the more because I’d seen them before, knew what I Uzala was getting into and they still managed to surprise with how switched on they were. Remains shredded his solos in top form and had some technical trouble along the way that was fixed so promptly by the Green Room crew that I’m not even sure he noticed. Only complaint? No “Tenement of the Lost.” The closer from Tales of Blood and Fire that begins with a wash of feedback and culminates in one of the sweetest minimalist doom ballads my ears have heard in the last five years — it’s my go-to sad song — would’ve certainly been welcome, but honestly, I think the maximum-volume approach they took was probably a more practical call given the room. I could’ve gone to see Russian Circles on the Main Stage, or Thou at Het Patronaat, or Moaning Cities, in Stage01, but Uzala kept me where I was. They were a thrill to watch.”

Burning World Records to release HEADLESS KROSS – Volumes

Formed in 2011, Glasgow’s Headless Kross combine monolithic riffs, mind bending psychedelia and crust tinged freak-outs to give them their unique sound.

headless krossFrequently described as ‘psychedelic doom’, swirling phasers and repetitive pounding rhythms give way to downtuned heaviness in a way that is somehow both tight and loose at the same time.

Headless Kross recorded their latest album ‘Volumes’ in July 2014 with Chris Fielding at Skyhammer Studio. This is due for release in early 2015 on Black Bow (vinyl and cassette) and Burning World (CD and download), with an amazing painted cover by US artist W. Ralph Walters. The album contains 3 gargantuan songs exploring the well-worn theme of nature reasserting herself in an incredibly violent way.

‘Volumes’ is released on vinyl via Black Bow Records on April 1st 2015, while the compact disc pressing will be handled by Burning World Records.

WOLF BLOOD S/T out now, whole album streaming on Bandcamp

Wolf Blood ArtWolf Blood S/T is out now and can be listened to on Bandcamp. The vinyl version will come in later this week and will be shipped to all who have pre-ordered. Pre-orders can still be placed in our online store (for Europe) or in the Outer Battery store (for US/Canada).

If you don’t know Wolf Blood read the quote below from JJ over at The Obelisk:

“Grooves and big riffs abound, but that’s nothing new to the converted, and where Wolf Blood really distinguish themselves is in the oddity of their aggression. Blending clean vocals, spoken parts and screams, they play off both metallic and heavy rock styles and craft something fluid and malevolent from them. There’s a sense of theatricality in side A finale “Dancing on Your Grave,” where much of the album’s second half seems to be more about pummel, but there’s an emerging personality at work across the board, and Wolf Blood emerge after “Procession of the Witch” unscathed by their own strangeness, having tread hard on a couple fine lines between subgenres. Ultimately, Wolf Blood is as satisfying for its brashness as it is for its density of groove.”

Terrorizer Streams SEIROM’s ‘And The Light Swallowed Everything’ In Its Entirety

43212526237_klein We could not agree more with the words José Carlos Santos penned about the newst release on Burning World Records (out in 2 days but available to order on the link below!) down over at Terrorizer.com.

Have you ever wondered what Gnaw Their Tongues mainman Mories does when he’s not producing bile infested, soul destroying black noise of the highest calibre? Well, it turns out he also crafts some of the most powerful, emotionally affecting ambience we’ve ever heard under the name Seirom. He’s just released a brand new album entitled ‘And The Light Swallowed Everything’, and Terrorizer is proud to present an exclusive stream of the record in its entirety…

Most of us who were drawn to Mories’ musical output in any of his many projects are part of that group of people who actually enjoy sonic torture and actively search for the most unpleasant, confrontational or just downright ugly music possible. From the torture chamber of the Dutchman’s most known project, Gnaw Their Tongues, to Cloak Of Altering, De Magia Veterum or Aderlating, among others, there’s always been an underlying nastiness to the man’s work that keeps the musical sadist/masochist/both within us fully satisfied.

Though a few of Gnaw Their Tongues’ less openly abrasive latest works (‘L’Arrivée De La Terne Mort Triomphante’ particularly) might have hinted that something completely different might be brewing in the man’s mind, nothing really could have prepared us for Seirom. Regardless what release you discovered this project with, whether on one of the earlier short EPs, first proper album ‘1973’ in 2012 or just now with this new full-length, the shock is essentially the same.

First of all – yes, it’s all beautiful. It’s all outrageously beautiful, hauntingly, harrowingly, luminously beautiful. The sounds created by Seirom are expansive and inspiring enough to warrant a petition to have them as the official soundtrack to the new ‘Cosmos’ series, but that’s not the biggest shock. What hits you the most is the moment where you realize that Mories (you’ve noticed the reversal of his name for this, right?) is essentially doing the very same thing he’s done in Gnaw Their Tongues. The samples, the electronics, the guitar effects, the overpowering fullness of the sound, the tools are all exactly the same, except used in a completely different way for completely different effects. It’s like a reformed torturer suddenly started using his iron maiden to store ice cream.

Though there’s been already a few Seirom releases, ‘And The Light Swallowed Everything’ really is the epitome of the project so far. The title really says it all regarding what you can expect. Do you know when death or near-death experiences are sometimes portrayed in the movies from the perspective of the dying, when there’s a huge flash of white light that fills the whole screen? This album is a sort of sonic equivalent to a still frame of that exact moment. For 47 whole minutes. And it still doesn’t feel like it’s enough.

BAST to release debut album on Burning World Records on CD and digital early 2014

SpectresgifMessage from Jon Davis of Conan and Skyhammer Studio fame about the debut from Bast:

‘It is with great pride that I can announce the first release on Black Bow Records. The first album to be recorded at Skyhammer Studio, with Chris Fielding on production duties. Visuals were lovingly crafted by Craig Bryant (vocals / guitar). This will be released on black vinyl, limited to 300 copies. Worldwide shipping.

This album sounds like a thousand bloodied hands, smashing your face from your skull.

BAST is a trio specialising in an unhealthy blend of Black Metal and Doom. With a flair for experimentation and emphasis on storytelling, the debut full-length ‘Spectres’ weaves together a hatful of heavy and a pinch of psychedelia to take you on a journey of Godless riffs and crippling atmosphere. Produced by the skilled hands of Chris Fielding at SkyhammerStudio – www.skyhammerstudio.com.

For fans of: Altar Of Plagues, Winterfylleth, Neurosis, Eagle Twin, Eyehategod.

This is a joint release between Black Bow Records and Burning World Records – Black Bow will handle vinyl and tape cassette, while Burning World will handle CD and online.

Pre orders and release date TBC but will be early 2014.’

ELDER to release Live At Roadburn 2013, download now on Bandcamp

elder roadburn CDpsdRoadburn Records is proud to present: Elder Live At Roadburn 2013 on both vinyl, cd and digital. For those we weren’t there check what JJ Koczan, connaisseur of all things rock and psychedelic, over at The Obelisk had to say about the experience of catching Elder live:

‘What a fucking blast. Seriously. That’s what it says in my notes: “What a fucking blast.” It’s a direct quote. Probably the best thing I can compare it to is when Black Pyramid played the Afterburner in 2011 and were given such a warm reception, but this was bigger, both in room size and in that reception itself. People were lined up out the door and down the alley to see Elder‘s Roadburn debut, and the crowd was cheering before they even started the first song. They waved and people cheered. It was a lot of fun to see, and as it was the 10th show on their 15-date European run with Pet the Preacher, they also handed the place its collective ass. Both cuts from the Spires Burn/Release EP were included, as well as “Dead Roots Stirring” and a host of others, and for the umpteenth time in the last couple days, I felt lucky to be there. I know for a lot of people, this was the first time they’re getting to see them live, but even for the several times I have, this one was something special.’

  • Live At Roadburn 2013 captures the set in all it’s glory. Listen to it on below on Bandcamp and if you like download it, it’s “Pay what you want” so even free!
  • If you need the set on cd or vinyl please go here but beware we will not be able to send out the vinyl or cd before Feb. 1st 2014.
