When it comes to mid-tempo heavy rock, Stone Axe are the most dedicated muthas on the planet right now. Too old and unfashionable to be considered “retro,” Stone Axe eat, shit and breathe the full gamut of classic rock from the late 1960’s through the early 1970’s.  Stone Axe II picks up where 2009’s full length debut left off but also offers quite a few surprises. The first album was heavy on British style blues rock of bands like Free, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era, only), etc. This new one touches on just about every style of classic rock. Listening to Stone Axe II from start to finish is like listening to a good rock radio station with a good DJ and no format restrictions.

On the back of his set with Saint Vitus on friday Wino played a mix of material from the just released Wino album Puntuated Equilibibrium, The Obsessed-material and more.

The set was recorded in multi track and mixed and mastered specially for this release by Mell Dettmer (Sunn o))), Earth, Burning Witch & more). In preparation for the cd or vinyl you can also listen to the whole set at 3VOOR12 (Windows Media Player). The design of the album was done by Mories of Gnaw Their Tongues-fame.

Sadly there is a downside to this release as well. Bassplayer Jon Blank passed away suddenly four days after the show in his home in the US. That is why we dedicted this album to him.

Watch out in the next few months for further additions in the series. Neurosis – Live at Roadburn 2007 will be released in September some more will follow in the autumn. The vinyl version of Wino – Live at Roadburn 2009 will be available in Oktober/November of 2010.

With Tides we also chose to go for a less studio-esq experience and record in a more raw way. The recording of White Tomb was very much a studio experience whereas Tides was more impulsive, we did not spend any time fretting over perfect takes or sounds. I think that is why the end product is less polished and more emotionally driven. That is an approach I would like to take in the future, especially with vocals. A metal ‘shriek’ is a painful, honest expression – but how can it be honest if it is recorded over and over until it sounds correct? (Of course the same approach might not apply to melodic singing, which has a ‘right’ sound.). With the second album I would like to find a balance between having an honest and real (not hundreds of takes) recording that adheres to what we would consider to be album standards. ”

Neurot Recordings proudly unveil a brand new live album from NEUROSIS, who are undoubtedly cited as one of the most influential bands of heavy music’s experimental underworld.

The first release from NEUROSIS since 2007’s Given to the Rising, this new live album was recorded that same year in Tilburg, Holland, at the annual Roadburn Festival, where NEUROSIS headlined to a die-hard audience. The album expertly captures as much of the band’s live experience as one possibly could on a physical recording, harnessing the monolithic flow and power of the band’s well-known sonically devastating live performances. The monstrous 78-minute record showcases this iconic band surging through hymns from their last few albums, including Given To The Rising, The Eye Of Every Storm, A Sun That Never Sets, and Through Silver In Blood.

Live At Roadburn will see official release on August 30, 2010, alongside the reissue of NEUROSIS’ groundbreaking 1993 release Enemy Of The Sun. The ‘Roadburn release features the iconic artwork/layout skills of visionary artist/NEUROSIS live visual master Josh Graham, also responsible for the redesigned Enemy Of The Sun layout. Both albums will be released on CD worldwide August 30th, 2010, part of this year’s celebration of the 25th anniversary of the legendary act. The first Harvestman record, A Grave Is A Grim Horse, was a dizzying confluence of delicate seventies British style folk, shimmery spaced out drift, and glacial doomdrone sprawl, a constantly evolving, organic song suite that seemed to exist in some glorious blissed out druggy spacefolk otherworld. On In A Dark Tongue, the glimmering strands of traditional folk music that had tethered the first record become even more tenuous.
