This week Wino – Live at Roadburn 2009 set was released on Roadburn Records. The third installment in our Live at Roadburn series. After Wolves in The Throne Room (2008), Year of No Light (2008) and Church of Misery (2009) the smokin set that Wino band (including JP Gaster of Clutch on drums and Jon Blank on bass) played on the Afterburner in 2009 was the best conclusion the festival could have.

Wino Live at Roadburn CDOn the back of his set with Saint Vitus on friday Wino played a mix of material from the just released Wino album Puntuated Equilibibrium, The Obsessed-material and more.

The set was recorded in multi track and mixed and mastered specially for this release by Mell Dettmer (Sunn o))), Earth, Burning Witch & more). In preparation for the cd or vinyl you can also listen to the whole set at 3VOOR12 (Windows Media Player). The design of the album was done by Mories of Gnaw Their Tongues-fame.

Brooklyn Vegan: an interview w/ Altar of Plagues + mp3

Posted in 2010, Artist, News on July 14th, 2010 by Gira1971

Altar of PlaguesTides was written and recorded during an extremely intense winter here in Ireland. It is the first time we have ever worked on material in the winter and I think that had an influence, even if I did not realize it at the time. During the writing I was also spending a great deal of time at a house on the coast, with the Atlantic Ocean just a stone’s throw away. I could not help but become captivated by its energy. While at this place, I learned stories of the hardships endured by people living on small Islands off this coast before the modern world existed. These people were entirely at the mercy of the Atlantic Ocean and as such were very much in tune with its movements and rhythm.

With Tides we also chose to go for a less studio-esq experience and record in a more raw way. The recording of White Tomb was very much a studio experience whereas Tides was more impulsive, we did not spend any time fretting over perfect takes or sounds. I think that is why the end product is less polished and more emotionally driven. That is an approach I would like to take in the future, especially with vocals. A metal ‘shriek’ is a painful, honest expression – but how can it be honest if it is recorded over and over until it sounds correct? (Of course the same approach might not apply to melodic singing, which has a ‘right’ sound.). With the second album I would like to find a balance between having an honest and real (not hundreds of takes) recording that adheres to what we would consider to be album standards.

Neurosis Live At Roadburn 2007 Details Announced

Posted in 2010, Artist on July 9th, 2010 by Gira1971

Neurosis Live at Roadburn

Neurot Recordings proudly unveil a brand new live album from NEUROSIS, who are undoubtedly cited as one of the most influential bands of heavy music’s experimental underworld.

The first release from NEUROSIS since 2007’s Given to the Rising, this new live album was recorded that same year in Tilburg, Holland, at the annual Roadburn Festival, where NEUROSIS headlined to a die-hard audience. The album expertly captures as much of the band’s live experience as one possibly could on a physical recording, harnessing the monolithic flow and power of the band’s well-known sonically devastating live performances. The monstrous 78-minute record showcases this iconic band surging through hymns from their last few albums, including Given To The Rising, The Eye Of Every Storm, A Sun That Never Sets, and Through Silver In Blood.

Steve von Till (Neurosis) project gets vinyl treatment + Harvestman Tour

Posted in 2010, Artist, Label, News on June 10th, 2010 by Gira1971

Harvestman - In a Dark TongueBurning World Records is extremely proud to present that we are giving Harvestman – In a Dark Tongue the vinyl treatment. July 15th 2010 we will release this 2LP but copies will be available on the European Steve von Till/Harvestman tour of which you’ll find the dates below. Artwork was in the hands of Josh Graham (Neurosis/ A Storm of Light)

The first Harvestman record, A Grave Is A Grim Horse, was a dizzying confluence of delicate seventies British style folk, shimmery spaced out drift, and glacial doomdrone sprawl, a constantly evolving, organic song suite that seemed to exist in some glorious blissed out druggy spacefolk otherworld. On In A Dark Tongue, the glimmering strands of traditional folk music that had tethered the first record become even more tenuous.

The possibility to pre-order (together with the pre-orders for Neurosis – Live at Roadburn 2007 2LP) will be up later this week. As usual we offer a limited gold vinyl version and a high quality black vinyl version. See Steve von Till/Harvestman this summer on his European tour:

16.07.10 – Holland Tilburg @ 013
17.07.10 – Luxembourg Luxembourg @ Casino Luxembourg
18.07.10 – Belgium Dour @ Dour Fest
19.07.10 – Switzerland Geneve @ L’usine (Kab)
20.07.10 – Germany München @ Feierwerk Kranhalle
21.07.10 – Germany Köln @ Underground
22.07.10 – Czech Rep Tocnik @ Old Castle
23.07.10 – Sweden Gagnef @ Skankaloss Fest

An interview with Mories of Gnaw Their Tongues/De Magia Veterum/Aderlating

Posted in 2010, Artist on May 20th, 2010 by Gira1971

Mories of Gnaw Their TonguesFor frequent visitors of Lurker, I’m sure Gnaw Their Tongues needs no introduction. A one-man vehicle of undistilled terror and confusion, the musical territory of Gnaw Their Tongues cannot be pinned down easily. Sprawling across the raw aggression and malice of black metal, it traverses the harsher aspects of noise and drone while smashing through the perverse fringes of industrial and dark ambient. While Gnaw Their Tongues is perhaps the flagship of Mories' works, he is also the sole creative force behind the bestial, avant-garde onslaught of De Magia Veterum. Considerably more guitar-based than Morie's other projects, De Magia Veterum is a tour de force in black metal that is not limited by stagnant traditionalism and elitism, a mindset which is, thankfully, on the decline. The throbbing static drones that pour from Aderlating are also the work of our man here, a project that can be considered a more relaxing ? alternative to the visceral grind of Gnaw Their Tongues. Alex and I caught up with Mories and asked a few questions about himself, his work and what has influenced him to bear such an abhorrent, twisted and generally fucked up trio of children.
