Gnaw Their Tongues L’Arrivee De La Terne Mort Triomphante review at aQuarius

Posted in 2011, Burning World Records on April 29th, 2011 by gira1971

gnaw-their-tongues-larrivee-de-la-terne-mort-triomphanteOur good friends at aQuarius Records in San Francisco have received a nice packet of Bunring World and Roadburn Records releases. Earlier this week we published the Bong review, now it’s time for their review of Gnaw Their Tongues L’Arrivee De La Terne Mort Triomphante LP.  If you are as impressed with the description as we are, please your copy in our discogs store or if you are in the US at aQuarius of course!

‘The sound here too seems a bit more lush, more produced, cleaner, but without losing any of the filth. We might go so far as to say this is the most accessible GTT release to date, but then it’s all relative, this is still some seriously crusty, devastatingly brutal, menacing and mean black doom misery, but deftly woven into something more melodic, more emotionally charged, where past GTT records were simply hateful and hellish, pummeling and punishing, L’Arrivee De La Terne Mort Triomphante is something more, an epic, intense journey, the soundtrack element can’t be understated, this totally plays out like the score to some insane, and insanely harrowing epic, a tale of death, and lost souls, and the end of humanity, and total annihilation, but as with all great epics, there continues to be hope, a glowing ember, that sits at the middle of it all, waiting to be discovered, and to perhaps eventually triumph, or perhaps to perish and disappear into utter and unending blackness. Quite possibly the most epic black doom cinematic symphonic noise metal opera EVER.’

Bong Live at Roadburn rave review at Aquarius Records

Posted in 2011, Roadburn Records on April 23rd, 2011 by gira1971

Bong-Live-At-Roadburn-2010Our good friends at Aquarius Records in San Franciso are one of the few shops around who review each and every one of the records that come in. These guys really care about their shop, the goods they sell and their customers. That’s why we are really thrilled to read the rave review of our Bong – Live at Roadburn CD. If you haven’t got it yet please pick it up in our Discogs store.

‘At times, “Onwards…” drifts back down into lulling stretches of spacey warbling electronic FX, and hippy-kraut hand drumming, coming across like a sinister Siloah or doomy Amon Duul. Or imagine the Master Musicians Of Bukkake making an ambient album for Miasmah, maybe. The equally epic second track, “Wizards Of Krull” previously recorded for the first side of their self-titled lp debut in 2009, continues in this vein, with more powerful percussion, though. It’s 24 minutes of ritualistically pounding drums and crashing cymbals, low drone from bass and voice both, gobs of distortion and spooky psychedelic effects, those Shahi Baaja note clusters chiming in with regularity. “Wizards…” gets slowly more and more intense as it goes, really ramping up towards the end with rhythmic urgency. Damn this is good! Bong bring it, all right, quite recommended, definitely for fans of Om, SUNNO, Grails, Sylvester Anfang… and of course Bong. And bongs! Most if not all Bong releases thus far have been live, and this one is much less of a lo-fi recording than some of those, making for an essential document of Bong’s unique trance-inducing potency.’

A Storm Of Light’s Josh Graham on working with Kim Thayil (Soundgarden)

Posted in 2011, Burning World Records on April 6th, 2011 by gira1971

Resident Neurosis visual artist (and ex-Red Sparowes guitarist/Battle Of Mice multi-tasker) Josh Graham & his revolving cast of players are releasing the third A Storm Of Light album next month: The rock-oriented (but still vast) As We Become The Valley of Death, Our Silver Dreams Fade follows 2009’s Forgive Us Our Trespasses. Appropriately, the heavy, doomy, truly lighter-lifting 9-song collection includes Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil on two tracksJosh Graham (Storm of Light) passed along his thoughts on the collaboration: Read his words and then take a listen to “Missing,” a song that includes Thayil along with regular A Storm Of Light collaborator, vocalist Nerissa Campbell (click to Stereogum for the track).

‘We first met Kim Thayil at our Seattle show with Shrinebuilder about a year ago. That show led to me working with Soundgarden over the last 9 months, completing artwork for Telephantasm and Live on I5. Over the course of those projects Kim and I became friends, talking extensively about music, ours and others we like.

Simultaneously Storm had begun working on our third studio record, experimenting with shorter, faster, and heavier material. As the record started to come together we realized it was moving into more of the rock world, which we’re kind of surprised by but decided to embrace it. Over the course of the last four releases (our Latitudes session is coming out soon as well) we’ve invited musicians and friends alike to play with us both on record and live. It keeps things fresh and always evolving, something we are really into as band.’

Read and listen more via A Storm Of Light – “Missing” (Feat. Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil & Nerissa Campbell) – Stereogum.

Wardruna and Winterfylleth vinyl delayed. New release dates announced

Posted in 2011, Burning World Records on April 1st, 2011 by gira1971

wardruna-runaljod gap var ginnungaIn short: both the Wardruna – Runaljof 2LP (+ 24 page booklet) and Winterfylleth – The Mercian Sphere 2LP which were supposed to be released at Roadburn 2011 in two weeks are delayed. This happened due to a planning error at the plant. We are really sorry about this, but there’s nothing we can do at this moment.

Winterfylleth will be released halfway May 2011 and Wardruna is post-poned till half June 2011. The release of Year of no light – Live at Roadbirn 2008 CD will be ready at Roadburn.
