Our friends at Aquarius Records in San Francisco have always been really supportive as Gnaw Their Tongues is concerned. With the new album they continu to do so. Please read the review of the release on Burning World Records below:

We’re running out of superlatives, not to mention overly poetic descriptions of filth and blackness and depravity, to describe this one man cinematic black doom noise outfit, but with every record, Mories, the man behind the beast, offers still more glimpses into what lurks below, or within, the sound an ever evolving cloud of black energy, rendered audible in shades of pummeling drum plod, of downtuned melting riffs, of howled and shrieked vocalizations, of Bernard Hermann like strings, all stretched and blurred and smeared and tangled into a veritable symphony of black bleak heaviness.

Stone Axe interview on Stonerrock.com & Tour dates

Posted in 2009, Artist, News on August 25th, 2009 by burningworldrecs
Stone Axe live

Stone Axe live

Tony Reed recently did an interview on Stonerrock.com’s John Pegorano about the history of Stone Axe and their future plans. Please read the whole interview at the link below.

So a mess of years back, my wife went out to Seattle to visit friends (fellow SR.commers, no less). When she came back, she brought a CD by a band she caught live – Mos Generator. One listen and I was sold. The Musical Gods looked kindly upon me, as shortly thereafter I received their end-of-the-world opus, The Late Great Planet Earth. One listen to that and I was a fan for life. When I heard guitarist/singer Tony Dallas Reed was starting another project, Stone Axe, I was sure I was going to dig it too. What I didn`t realize was how much. The band – essentially a studio collaboration between Reed and singer Dru Brinkerhoff (fleshed out with Mykey Haslip and Mike Dupont live) – is a wild romp through classic rock. Tony and I had this email exchange about Stone Axe, long-lost b-sides, and the fate of Mos Generator.

Read the full interview here.

altarofplagues

Burning World Records is proud and pleased to announce that Irish band Altar of Plagues have agreed to release an EP in the new year on our label. The band, whose album White Tomb has beeen describes as:  ‘‘exploding the sonic boundaries developed by the metalgaze scene. … its tenacity and all-consuming apocalyptic aura will bring anyone down. Massive. ‘ (read the whole review at Blistering.com). We wholeheartedly agree! If you are looking  for dense and textual black metal, don’t look any further. Altar of Plagues is the band for us and for you!

Burning World Records will release an EP with two songs in Februari of 2010 in a vinyl and a cd-version. The first copies of the vinyl EP will include a photobook by James O’ Ceallaigh (guitar, vocals, synth).

White Tombs simply explodes the sonic boundaries developed by the metalgaze scene. It’s more than that, obviously and its tenacity and all-consuming apocalyptic aura will bring anyone down. Massive.

Extensive Gnaw Their Tongues interview in Oakenthrone

Posted in 2009, Artist, News on August 6th, 2009 by burningworldrecs
oakenthrone

oakenthrone

One of our favourite printed magazines about all that is black and bleak Oakenthrone (the last two issues also included a cd with most bands that are covered within) has conducted an in-depth interview with Gnaw Their Tongues mastermind Mories. Ben West and John Mincemoyer have graciously approved of our request to put the interview in PDF-format – including the magazine’s artwork – online for your reading pleasure.

What follows below is the start of the article, download the full article in pdf here.

If you’ve had the Fear you remember it well: white-hot paranoia, perhaps by Eric Johnson drug-induced, courses through your brain like electric current; your illustration by Ben West blood pumps thick and viscous, ready to force its way out any available orifice; thoughts race distractedly, unable to slow down, unable to assemble things in perspective. If you’ve had the Fear you know the sound. It’s the sound of Gnaw Their Tongues.

Stone Axe in Classic Rock magazine

Posted in 2009, Artist, Label on August 3rd, 2009 by burningworldrecs
Classic Rock cover

Classic Rock cover

Stone Axe is going places. If you happen to buy the new Classic Rock issue (august 2009 with Jimi Hendrix on the cover) you’ll reed and hear all about Tony and Dru and their 70s infused heavy blues. Stone Axe song ‘There’d be Days’ is included on the cover cd as the second song and inside there’s two recommendation as to why YOU should listen to Stone Axe:
From the fertile mind and nimble fingers of ex-Mos Generator Tony Reed and punk howler Dru Brinkerhoff, Wahington based groove merchants Stone Axe play tribute to classic 70s hard rock bands from Thin Lizzy to Leaf Hound. Well-trod ground but done with soul and sophistication.
Next to this the song is included on the Classic Rock Heavy Rotations inside the magazine.
We could have chosen almost any song off this month’s free cd – but this note perfect Faces stomp-along is the one we ‘re most smitten with right now.

And a short but nice review to follow that: Port Orchard, Washington’s Stone Axe conjure a guttural, soulful hard-rock cauldron that suggests they’ve absorbed their share of Humble Pie and Thin Lizzy. Singer Dru Brinkerhoff valiantly rasps in ways that make Steve Marriott and Rod Stewart comparisons seem not at all absurd. DAVE SEGAL

Stone Axe is touring the east coast of the USA starting august 8 and ending oktober 17th 2009, check out the dates and places here.
