“Dru and I met about ten years ago. I produced and recorded many demos for his bands The Swinos & Gift For Fiction. During these sessions I could tell that Dru was an exceptional vocalist and I knew I would work with him some day other that studio work or drumming (I ended up playing drums on recordings in both of his bands). During recording and rehearsals we would talk about our favourite bands which included all the great 60’s and 70’s bands and some obscure ones as well. In 2006 I started working on an EP for Mos Generator that had a more classic sound and feel. Some of the ideas on the riff tapes for that album ended up being the musical genesis for Stone Axe.”

Cover Gnaw their Tongues - All the dread

As promised earlier we bring you a track of the new Gnaw Their Tongues album all the dread magnificence of perversity to be released on Crucial Blast on cd and yours truly Burning World Records on double vinyl. Find the tracklist here and the full artwork here.

The track is titled ‘Rife with deep teeth marks’ and is track 7 of the album. As Mories himself says: “This track stands for the album as a whole”.

“Het is tijd om een stukkie te schrijven, maar op de een of andere manier ben ik niet in de stemming voor het merendeel van de plaatjes die ik heb liggen. Ho wacht, dat Stone Axe klonk wel relaxed, misschien is dat iets. En inderdaad, binnen de kortste keren zit ik ontspannen mee te bewegen met de bluesy classic rock van deze heren. Een tikkie Free, een beetje Deep Purple, een toefje Led Zeppelin, een randje Thin Lizzy (“There’d Be Days”), een keer iets meer dan een beetje AC/DC (“Diamonds And Fools”), maar nergens hinderlijke na-aperij.”

Brooklyn Vegan did a nice plug for Roadburn Records in his round up of all things metal where he regularly focuses on all things Roadburn (Saint Vitus, Stinking Lizaveta, Orange Goblin among others.) Check it out each week.

‘With Roadburn happening this weekend, if you won’t be there then at least you can take comfort in the fact there are a few bands that will record their set for later release. Two more bands to add to that list (we announced Orange Goblin previously) are Year Of No Light and Fear Falls Burning. Look for their LPs to surace on (surprise!) Roadburn Records, along with Orange Goblin’s Live LP.‘

Actually he did not get it quite right: the live album by Year of no Light/Fear Falls Burning will be one album and this will be their set of Roadburn 2008. But appriciated nonetheless!

Gomer Pyle will release double album Idiots Savants on Roadburn Records. And the band will play on thursday april 23rd in the Green Room on the Roadburn Festival 2009. The album will be presented there.
